Grooming your yorkie can be done at home by you or at a professional grooming salon. You can bath your dog at home and dry your pup by using a hand-held hairdryer on low heat, along with a pin brush. When bathing your yorkie, take care not to rub the shampoo/conditioner in all directions over the dog’s hair as this will cause knots and mats. When you shampoo your pup, just lather up the shampoo in your hands then soap him by rubbing in one direction only, rubbing downward. I do the same thing when conditioning a dog. Let the pup shake off access water then towel dry by blotting and rubbing downward in one direction only.
As far as trimming your pup, I recommend that you do the minor upkeep yourself. You should be able to trim your puppy’s ears, around the eyes, and the butt area. You may even have success at trimming your pup’s pads on their feet, although this can sometimes be a little challenging! It is very important to keep your pup’s ear hair trimmed, as during the early months this is necessary so your yorkie’s ears will stand. See the photo below. The areas outlined in black should be shaved both inside and out.
The below trimmers are inexpensive and should help you keep your pup trimmed up.
